Celebrating 25 Years
Mike Mayfield started his mechanical career in 1991 after high school. At that time Mike worked at O’Reilly Auto Parts where he sold parts during the day. At night he fixed cars for a local mechanic’s shop.
Mike found his passion fixing cars, so three years later in late December of 1994, he decided to open the doors to Mayfield Auto Repair at 633 Missouri Avenue in West Plains, Missouri.
In the beginning Mike worked by himself with help in the office from his sister Valerie (Mayfield) Friend. In 1995 his soon-to-be wife Lora (Cockrum) Mayfield took over office duties. Working together wasn’t new to the couple since Mike and Lora met when they were both employed at O’Reilly’s.
The business continued to grow and in 1998 the Mayfields expanded their small shop by purchasing the local auto repair business where Mike had started his career seven years before. Later that year, Mike and Lora Mayfield moved their business to a rental property on Broadway until they purchased their first building at 311 W First Street in 2003.
While Mike and Lora raised three great kids, Mayfield Auto Repair’s business boomed at 311 W First. What started out as a one-man show, turned into a thriving family business, which includes their son Damon and six amazing, hard-working employees. With the April 2017 flood and no room for expansion, Mike and Lora decided to make a major leap of faith. They moved their business from downtown, where they had been for 24 years, to a brand new 11,000 square-foot building at 2090 Clark Avenue in West Plains.
The beginning of 2020 brought two milestones and celebrations for Mayfield Auto Repair. They celebrated their 25th year of business, and on March 22 they celebrated their one year anniversary at their new location.
